标题: 牛人来解GWD 一题SC 急啊

B.with speeds that are much higher than are

C.at much higher speeds as are

这题正确答案是E。为什么不是D呢？E选项than 后面跟的are，有人说是省略比较从句的主语(speeds that),变成
at speeds much higher than (speeds that) are，可是这种省略不理解啊？
省略speeds可以的，但是怎么能同时省略that呢？

"that" 如果是作为定语从句 （speeds） that  (are)  currently possible.
没有见过这种省略先行词，又剩去谓语，只留下that的情况
同时 ，会发现这种如果补全的话 ，than的前后很难平衡，个人认为如果这种补全应该是 at much higher speeds than speeds at which ()

另一种解释that 作为speeds的代词，那么应该用those

个人理解，仅供参考

此外，想请教下，b 中”with speeds that are much higher than are“
除了idiom用法以外，还有没有别的问题？

    我的看法是这题本来就是状语系统的比较，比较的是合并后的速度，与合并前的速度 ，
    如果是可能有歧义，请分析下两种可能的意思

    此外，想提出一点，看网上看到一些帖子，说
    “I eat apple faster than you do 如果写成 I eat apple faster than you 按ETS的理解，从语法上就变成我吃苹果比吃你快，成了宾语比较。逻辑上显然不通。”

    但是根据曼哈顿语法
    "Right:     Vishal eats more carrots than donuts. (donuts must be the object)
    Wordy: Vishal eats more carrots than HE DOESdonuts.
    The first example is not ambiguous (donuts cannot eat carrots), so if all else is the same,
     choose the first example over the slighdy wordier second example."

    显然两种说法是互相矛盾的，而且个人觉得曼哈顿的说法更有说服力些，因此是否有兄弟可以提出例子验证这两种说法？

    PS:本题的助动词are确实需要保留，因为比较中目前用的是"are",前面的speeds实际是将来的动作，如补全，应该为“will”等将来时态，比较前后如果时态不同，应补足助动词

    继续求一下验证

            两个例子比较的对象不同，前面的一个例子比较的是主语，主语比较为了避免歧义，通常要加助动词
    ØRice has protein of higher quality thanwheta does.(主语比较，Rice 与wheat比）
    后面曼哈顿的例子比较的是宾语，当两个并列的句子主语和谓语成分相同时，通常省略。
    例如：I eat apple faster than watermelon.

    我觉得如果说much higher than possible ，大家都不会有疑问，一定可以。 问题是 currently possible，按句意讲应该是what is currently possible. 所以我理解还原回去应该是 at speeds much higher than speeds that are currently possible.

    关于不造成歧义的原则，我觉得是可以省去speeds that的，但是省去are就不行。原因我上面讲的。

    新东方SC赵丽老师的说法是，GMAT题中有比较的than后助动词补出原则。我做题注意了一下的确是这样，正确答案助动词和be一般都补出
