答案是E，我选的B，我选B的原因是：The greatest road system （built in the Americas）（ prior to the arrival of Christophe Columbus）
was the Incan highway, over 2,500 miles in length, and extended from northern Ecuador through Peru
to Southern Chile. 为什么选 E啊？两个句子之间都没连词啊。。。不解，请牛牛们指教！

我认为E选项是这样解释的句子的

The greatest road system（ built in the Americas prior to the arrival of Christopher Columbus）
, the Incan highway was over 2,500 miles long, extending from northern Ecuador
through Peru to Southern Chile.

the greatest road system是the Incan highway的同位语，built in..修饰同位语the greatest road system；而the Incan highway是真正主语，extending from northern Ecuador
through Peru to Southern Chile修饰主句

不是啊，我觉得（built in the Americas）和（ prior to the arrival of Christopher ）都是来修饰The greatest road system 的，然后 was 和extended 共同修饰The greatest road system 。 E 刚才我讲错了，我是说E 后面 the Incan highway was over 2,500 miles long, extending。。。是一个完整的句子，而前面The greatest road system built in the Americas prior to the arrival of Christopher Columbus 就不是一个完整的结构是个分支啊。

把B的主干拿出来，就是The greatest road system...was the Incan highway and extended... extended（延伸）的应该是road啊，就是那个Incan Highway，而不应该是这个road system吧
恩~不过这个想法好像有点吃毛求疵了嘿嘿~

那是你搞错了啊，注意 over 2,500 miles in length, and extended 的lenghth 后面有逗号啊，压根不会想到它们两平行啊。你这样排除B 很险啊，B 不错在这儿

个人理解是这样的,如果选B,那么主语就变成the greatest road system,was后面的所有东西都是指代的对象都是road system.

嗯，楼上说得有道理。

flywer说的也有道理。

extend的应该是road，不是system。

另：B中extend是主句成分；E中extending是分词结构，修饰成分；句子表意重心变化。

不知道这点是否也构成排除B的原因？

是的，was 和 extend 并列修饰 system 不太好，extending 起修饰作用会比较好些~

是这样呢。E是GMAT喜欢的句型，同位语，主语+谓语，分词状语。但是要排除B，就要靠逻辑意思了，extend的主语应该是highway,而不是road system.现在实战上，GMAC学坏了不少了，大家要注意啊，要重视逻辑意思。

B的主谓是有点别扭，但是有一个疑惑哎？那如果像E，road system和highway是同位语的话，不是说两者相同性质了吗？既然high可以extend，是不是意味着road system也可以？

开始我把E给排除了是因为总觉得E的was前面应该加个逗号才顺啊。。。不加总觉得跟前面连不起来
