The word or phrase that begins this sentence should establish the contrast between the size of the United States population and the activities of its citizens. Choices D and E are the only ones that establish the contrast, and only E, the best choice, expresses meaning accurately with the phrase Although accounting for. With in choice A and Despite having in choice D confusingly suggest that United States citizens somehow possess, rather than constitute, 5 percent of the world’s population. Choices B and C lose the contrast between the opening phrase and the main clause, and As is unidiomatic in B.

不明白OG的解释为什么单独说As is unidiomatic. 感觉上用as 与后面的主语U.S.citizens好象从逻辑上讲不通，但是用being也同样有这个问题啊？

这句话的意思很明白，也是很多OG题的关键，一定要读懂题，甚至翻译成中文，这样你一下子就可以明白了：

美国国民占世界人口的5%, account for.
美国国民拥有世界人口的5%，have, 或者作为, as，当然就不对了。

我不明白,为什么although accounting for用ing形式可以,但其余选项的ing就被说成:suggest that United States citizens somehow possess, rather than constitute,account for是一种特殊用法?

而且,为什么although后面直接加动名词,是一种省略么?如果不是省略,那这种用法是不是需要逻辑主语一致?如果是省略,是不是省略逻辑主语加be动词?

Although accounting for 的確是要前後邏輯主語一致,而account for此詞組本身就表示佔...比例的意思,所以就邏輯語意上沒有問題,反觀其他選項,都有所謂邏輯主語不一致的問題所以都錯,試問米國人怎麼會擁有世界百分之五人口呢....此處應該是要表達成佔多少比例的概念吧.....請指教...

我不明白的是这个句子里未划线出现的its ,看了那么多贴子都说it不能指代所有格，那么这句话里的it指代的是什么呢，我觉得指代world很合适啊？？？？

但是这里是its---world's,是可以的

盈兒你的意思就是說 A's 可以用its/their之類的所有格指代就算its/their前面根本沒有出現過 A 這個辭嘛?
