放“量”的少；the other gases 本身使用了复数形式 gases，表示其他气体的种类，因此对应使用
修饰可数名词的 fewer，fewer of the other gases 表示其他气体排放“种类”的少

下面那道是PREP07上的，说不可数应该用less,可数应该用fewer,但是大全的164题里的E用的是less 来修饰pollutants，这里的pollutants应该是复数吧？那应该怎么说呢？

让你偷个懒，我给你总结一下fewer less的区别

对于单数不可数，但复数可数的名词，fewer和less都可以用，但是意思不同。fewer指种类少，每种的数量不一定，less指每种的数量少，种类不一定。
类似的名词还有fish，waste（暂时只想起来这两个）

具体来说pollutant指污染物，不可数。pollutants指污染物种类，可数。
也就是说从1kgCO2到0.5kgCO2叫做less，从 CO+CO2到CO2叫fewer

同问!!!! 另外我还有一个问题是 as well as 是严格讲究对称的，那么应该是burn as well as emit ，为什么是 emitting呢？是不是因为 as well as 前面的逗号的原因呢？求教~~~

我查过牛津高阶牛津高阶双解朗文当代和韦氏字典，没有发现 as well as 后面可以加动词

恩，我也觉得是因为逗号的原因吧，如果没有逗号的话，应该用emit比较合适，但是pollutants 既然都加了s了，怎么还用less 呢？谁能解释下啊？谢谢鸟啊~

我理解的你的解释，但是既然如你所说，pollutants 是指污染物种类，那么种类的减少应该用 fewer 啊，那为什么E选项用的是less 呢？这不矛盾了吗？求进一步解释~谢了~

好吧，我非常负责任的告诉你，as well as后面不能接动词。（如果你非要坚持，那你就随便吧）
pollutants确实表示种类:

朗文当代：
pollutant
pol·lut·ant /p??lu?t?nt/n[C]
a substance that makes air, water, soil etc dangerously dirty, and is caused by cars, factories etc
air/environmental/water etc pollutants
　

New regulations will reduce hazardous air pollutants.
　

a dumping ground for toxic pollutants
chemical/industrial etc pollutants
　

industrial pollutants in the lake

原句哪里说种类减少了？
比如原来空气中有两种污染物A & B 各为 10ppm，现在变成仍然两种污染物 A & B 但各为 5ppm，这算不算减少？

同意，我查到柯林斯英汉双解上说as well as是介词，还有薄冰语法上也罢as well as归为短语介词，而介词后只能跟具有名词性质的词汇，由此推断as well as 后不能跟动词。

fewer than 表示可以一个个地算出来的，比如人，饭店数量等，一般为可数名词；

less than表示的东西是当作整体不可分的，如：weight, 金钱，时间，距离等；
