Like many self-taugh t artists, Perle Hessing did not begin to paint until she was well into
middle age.

(B) As have
(C) Just as with
(D) Just like
(E) As did

选A 想问下E为什么不对啊

我也是菜鸟，不一定对。
我认为错误的原因是比较不对等。
E选项中，比较双方分别是 slef-taught artists did 和 PH。
其中，前者是一个动作，而后者是一个人，因此不对等。

而A项却不是，A项比较的双方分别是 self-taught artists 和 PH。其中，前者是人，后者还是人。
所以A项正确。

后面这个不也是一个动作吗？难道不是？

did位置的问题，as后面部分不用倒装把did提前。
比如 As her brother did, Ava aced the test.

不过就算补全了读起来也觉得好奇怪：

就是把did 放在后面了，这句子也不对吧，前面是did 后面句子是did not，这样的不是很怪咧。

后者只是对PH的比较，而不是对PH及其动作的比较。两者是主语间的比较格局。

明显，题目是人的比较，和did无关。所以排除掉E吧
