D确实不对，vanishing 不能和grassy fields and old pastures用like比较，是不同的事物。
做了这么多题目，还是觉得时间不够，不能做得很仔细啊。唉！

我的理解是不存在比较，或本题不好通过 Like 来判断语法点，去掉 Like，大家都会选 B

还是老俞说的有道理,相信经验,相信套路.看这题,这么大一个like,上来就否掉CDE,没有任何悬念,因为没有名词和like对应;然后是A和B,the...vanishing...is这个结构,一看就有问题,否之,就剩下个B了,管它什么意思,选之.整个过程30秒吧
语法靠技巧,不是说技巧的准确率多高,而是说速度极快,正确率也不错,不按常规套路的题800年遇一次,遇了就认了呗,不然得赔上多少时间

其实这个题还是蛮有有意思的，用Like A, B does 句型来比较两种看起来非常不相干的东西，其实正是看起来不相干，使得我们必须找到其共同点：both A and B are vanishing，而且其原因是相同的 -- as a result of ...。只有找到这个共性，才能正确选择到答案。
A. 仅仅说了the sandpipers are vanishing，没有体现the grassy fields and
old pastures [[are also vanishing]], 也就是没有找到Like A, B结构中AB的共性！
C. 一个that 使得句子是两个从句连接，没有主句; change to中的介词也不对
DE同样没有主句, 句子结构不完整

同意你的理解。这两种虽然一个是植物类一个是动物类，但他们都属于具体名词，且都是为了说明“消失”这个现状，因此用like比较两者的共性。也就是说词性对等，功能也对等。
