142. In one of the most stunning reversals in the history of marketing, the Coca-Cola company in July 1985 yielded to thousands of irate consumers demanding that it should bring back the original Coke formula.
(A) demanding that it should
(B) demanding it to
(C) and their demand to
(D) who demanded that it
(E) who demanded it to
Choice A incorrectly uses should bring rather than bring:
demanding that already conveys the idea of "should," and at any rate a modal(情态)
auxiliary (辅助)verb, such as should or must, cannot grammatically follow the
expression demanded that. Similarly,
B and E use the ungrammatical expression demanding/demanded it to.
In C, the expression yielded to... customers and their demand to bring... unnecessarily states that the company yielded to the customers as well as to their demand.
This expression also fails to specify that the company is expected to bring back the original formula.
1. thousands of irate consumers demanding that
2. thousands of irate consumers with the demand that
3. thousands of irate consumers who demanded that
1 and 3, which can be used here, are better than 2, which is wordy.
The difference betten 1 and 3 is that 1 emphasize ongoing action but 3 not.
237. It seems likely that a number of astronomical phenomena, such as the formation of planetary nebulas, may be caused by the interaction where two stars orbit each other at close range.
(A) may be caused by the interaction where two stars orbit each other
(B) may be caused by the interaction between two stars that each orbit the other
(C) are because of the interaction between two stars that orbit each other
(D) are caused by the interaction of two stars where each is orbiting the other
(E) are caused by the interaction of two stars orbiting each other
Choice E, the best answer Choice C Also, the phrase two stars that orbit each other illogically suggests that there are two particular stars causing all the phenomena in question, rather than various sets of stars in various locations.(现在分词与从句的区别).
可以参考OG80/142/144/167/258,其中,167的时态比较特殊,可以自己分析一下原因。
1. thousands of irate consumers demanding that
3. thousands of irate consumers who demanded that

那么请问以下两句有什么分别? when to use "who" and when not to? I always get confused. 请 NN 指点.
- thousands of irate consumers demanded that
- thousands of irate consumers who demanded that
- thousands of irate consumers demanded that 是consumers 被要求
thousands of irate consumers who demanded that 是consumers 要求
demand sb/sth to do sth
1 | to ask for something very firmly, especially because you think you have a right to do this Angry demonstrators demanded the resignation of two senior officials. demand to know/see/have etc something I demand to know what's going on. demand that They demanded that the military government free all political prisoners. demand something of somebody 'Where are you going?' she demanded angrily. It seemed that no matter what she did, more was demanded of her. |
2 | if one thing demands another, it needs that thing in order to happen or be done successfully Too many things demanded his attention at the same time. It's a desperate situation demanding a desperate remedy. |

thx
I agree with Avantasia on this.
1. thousands of irate consumers demanding that
2. thousands of irate consumers with the demand that
3. thousands of irate consumers who demanded that
与who demanded.... 2的with the demand that除了有wordy问题(一位NN的意思),with...
1.
thousands of irate consumers demanding that
2.
thousands of irate consumers with the demand that
3. thousands of irate consumers who demanded that
1. thousands of irate consumers demanding that
3. thousands of irate consumers who demanded that
D is the best
这样D is the best
