答案没问题。

我的问题是for nations, like individuals, can find themselves locked into difficult positions, unable to back down.这里的unable to back down在这个句子中是什么成分？做状语补充说明前面的find themselves locked into difficult positions,还是别的什么？

It seems to be "absolute modifier".

有道理，这里的分号好像的确应该改为逗号。for应该是个连词，表原因。

看来，小马蛋糕快成大蛋糕了，问的问题好难啊。
