标题: OG-92只有五天了,请NN们帮个忙

92.   Never before had taxpayers confronted so many changes at once as they had in the Tax Reform Act of 1986.

(A) so many changes at once as they had in

(B) at once as many changes as

(C) at once as many changes that there were with

(D) as many changes at once as they confronted inD

(E) so many changes at once that confronted them in

今天从新看这题时突然晕了:这里D选中的confronted属于比较中的(助)动词补出范围吗?换成did可以吗?我一直认为比较中的助动词补出不能补实意动词,这里到底属于那种用法?谢谢NN帮帮忙!

谢谢睡熊!

这就是说,除了像have这样的既可被作为实意动词,又可被作完成时之外的其他词都是可以直接在比较结构中出现的咯?

对,用助动词代替不是必需的。

末名非牛,名牛多退,趁机胡诌...

bunnier doesn't think so. In this comparison, "did" can't replace "had confronted" because they are two different tenses/functions. See OG 187A:

In one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, fought at Sharpsburg, Maryland, on September 17, 1862, four times as many Americans were killed as would later be killed on the beaches of Normandy during D-Day.

There are many examples with different types of comparison in http://forum.chasedream.com/dispbbs.asp?BoardID=23&ID=36523

理解本句的意思就很好做了

从来没有纳税人一次面对像1986那一年的税务改革法案而带来的那么多变化.

D结构平行, 语法正确.

睡熊的解释里面偶对E的解释不同意. E里错误挺多的. SO...that 从句没有从句主语.

作者: 睡熊    时间: 2004-6-13 13:09

Let's discuss...

with bunnier:

"did" is not a substitute for "had confronted", "did" can be a logical substitute for "confronted". That is if option (D) wording as "as many changes at once as they did in", (D) is still correct. I think this is what the note is asking.

with tulipmontreal:

There is no "so ... that" structure in (E) , actually AS is just misplaced by THAT.

睡熊gg, sorry, bunnier wasn't clear about the answer to 楼主's question! in bunnier's opinion, no, "did" cannot be used in place of the 2nd "confronted". doing so, the sentence gets confusing tenses. the new verb form comes in 92D and 187A for a reason, which is to introduce a different tense (function). "did" can't be subsituted for "had confronted" in the 2nd part of the compaison. ditto for 187A shown in 第5楼.

睡熊gg, could you find an OG example that "did" is used to subsitute for "had confronted" or something similar to this effect? it will be an useful data point to crack ets!

这是一段时间的内的状态 跟 某一点的状态的比较。前面用完成时态,后面用一般过去时态, 需要用“did”或“confronted”表示。不存在用“did”来替代“had confronted”的问题,也无法替代,在其他任何场合。

比较从句只是要求比较对象对等,并不要求时态一致。

"后面用一般过去时态, 需要用“did”或“confronted”表示。" No and yes: don't agree on "did" but agree on "confronted". Look forward to gg's OG example for the former.

"比较从句只是要求比较对象对等,并不要求时态一致。" Agreed completely!

蓝色泡泡mm, If you have 5 minutes, 细细地琢磨一下 OG 129. It needs a complete form of a verb to change its tense/function from its earlier form. Good luck!

129. In an effort to reduce their inventories, Italian vintners have cut prices; their wines have been priced to sell, and they are.

(A) have been priced to sell, and they are

(B) are priced to sell, and they have

(C) are priced to sell, and they do

(D) are being priced to sell, and haveC

(E) had been priced to sell, and they have

In choice C, the best answer, do is correctly used in place of the full verb do sell; in this verb, do is a conjugated form and sell is in the infinitive form, corresponding to its previous use in the sentence (in the phrase priced to sell). In choice A, the omitted word is selling; in B, D, and E, it is sold. Neither of these forms corresponds properly to to sell earlier in the sentence. Also, in E, the past perfect had been priced signifies that the wines had been priced to sell before the prices were cut.

just found a straight-forward substitution:

OG 168B: Today, because of improvements in agricultural technology, the same amount of acreage produces twice as many apples as it did in 1910.

重新找出了类似的句子

1.  Inflation has made many Americans reevaluate their assumptions about the future; they still expect to live better than their parents have, but not so well as they once thought they could.

(A) they still expect to live better than their parents have

(B) they still expect to live better than their parents did

(C) they still expect to live better than their parents had

(D) still expecting to live better than their parents had B

(E) still expecting to live better than did their parents

这里,did代的是live,而不是expect

因为比较的内容是“活得更好”而不是“更好的期望”

2. In an effort to reduce their inventories, Italian vintners have cut prices; their wines have been priced to sell, and they are.

(A) have been priced to sell, and they are

(B) are priced to sell, and they have

(C) are priced to sell, and they do

(D) are being priced to sell, and haveC

(E) had been priced to sell, and they have 答案C。

OG的解释应该是说,do代的是sell,而sell与前面的to sell相对应

3.        The guiding principles of the tax plan released by the Treasury Department could have even a greater significance for the economy than the particulars of the plan.

(A) even a greater significance for the economy than

(B) a significance that is even greater for the economy than

(C) even greater significance for the economy than have

(D) even greater significance for the economy than doD

(E) a significance even greater for the economy than have

do代的是实意动词have,前面的could have 是对现在事实的一种虚拟

如果用have则会造成被误认为是完成时,但若是换成其他实意动词,就不会有此问题

4.Bob Wilber became Sidney Bechet’s student and protégé when he was nineteen and, for a few years in the 1940’s, came as close to being a carbon copy of the jazz virtuoso in performance as anyone has ever come.

(A) as anyone has ever come

(B) as anyone ever had been

(C) as anyone ever had done

(D) that anyone ever didA

(E) that anyone ever came

个人认为A中的came换成done也是可以的

LZM书中也提到,C是一个干扰选项,从代词角度是正确的,只是ever应该放在had后面,A表示到现在都没有,C表示到他那个时候没有

5.   Never before in the history of music have musical superstars been able to command so extraordinary fees of the kind they do today.

(A) so extraordinary fees of the kind they do today

(B) so extraordinary fees as they are today

(C) such extraordinary fees as they do today

(D) such extraordinary fees of the kind today’s haveC

(E) so extraordinary a fee of the kind they can today

do 代的是commend

Americans

似乎与我们上面讨论的不能对等,

In one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, fought at Sharpsburg, Maryland, on September 17, 1862, four times as many Americans were killed as would later be killed on the beaches of Normandy during D-Day.

(B) at once as many changes as

(C) at once as many changes that there were with

(D) as many changes at once as they confronted inD

(E) so many changes at once that confronted them in

该句OG的解释:This sentence compares changes before and after 1986. 是否可以认为将答案改写为

"as many changes at once as in" 也对.
