首先谁说指代一定要就近呢。。。如果指代the United States's，那么把省略补完整是the United States's fatty food还是the United States's people呢？这个不好说吧。。。。就算是按照句意可以判断是后者，语法的答案都是比出来的，他这个表达让读者在猜，就已经不如别的选项clear作者: jiaying52 时间: 2011-5-18 20:46
bz正解，刚才查了下MANHATTAN 上面说是 Proximity The pronoun should normally refer to the CLOSEST eligible antecedent. 以前没注意ELIGIBLE这个词。
Also, the antecedent normally occurs earlier in the sentence. 原来一般先行词 不会理很近 多谢BZ
