Providing initial evidence that airport are a larger source of pollution than they were once believed to be, environmentalists in Chicago report that the total amount of pollutant emitted annually by vehicles at O’Hare International Airport is twice as much as that which is being emitted annually by all motor vehicles in the Chicago metropolitan area.



  1. as much as that which is being emitted annually by all

  2. as much annuallyas is emitted by the

  3. as much compared to what is annually emitted by all

  4. that emitted annually by all

  5. that emitted annually compared to the

    这道题答案据说是D，但是对B选项我一直有一个迷惑，就是这里单就as...as is emitted by...是否正确？ 对于as...as的省略一直很混乱，请教~~~~~

这里考点是twice的用法

twice+n:  e.g.:twice the amount
twice as adj. as      e.g.:twice as many as
貌似twice+n. 更简洁，忘了。。

这题非要用as much as的话，就是as much as that is emitted annually by

A：that后面直接用is emitted修饰就可以了，用从句which is being修饰，awkward
B：在这里，much修饰annually，错误

as...as...的用法（第一个as为副词，第二个as为连词）：
1. as + 形容词或副词原级 + as-分句
2. as + many/much + 名词 + as-分句

3. as+many/much+状语+as: e.g.: We learn as much from experience as from schooling.  
                                                 e.g.: He wins frequently, as much because he plays so hard as because he cheats.

4. 表否定时第一个as可换成so： not as/so+形容词或副词+as
                                                   not as/so+many/much+名词+as


5. 引导从句：e.g.: We have ten apples, about as many as we picked yesterday.
    这里第二个as引导从句，as充当先行词。

我觉得is好像不需要啊
as much as that emitted by
就是不知道有没有 as much as is emitted ...这种情况。。。

加is和不加is意思不一样的

你如果要加is，说明在as much as后面那个从句的主语和主句的主语是一样的，所以省略了

可否把that也省略了？

之所以要加上that，就是因为前后两个pollutant是不一样的，所以that不能省。

曼哈頓CH13裡面的說法：
Use times (twice, three times...) without "as" or "than" to indicate direct multiplication.
