HKUST - WAITING LIST
Bachelor degree in Economics (low GPA) from Georgia Institute of Technology(GIT) in the US, 2 years work experience as a Business Analyst in the US, and 1 year with IBM in Shang Hai, GMAT 640, interviewed for HKUST Shen Zhen PT program on April 14th, got waiting-listed on the 18th (ps:收到waiting-list的email后崩溃了).
What are my odds of getting the offer?

Thx

I believe you were expecting CDers' thrilling like "wow, how come, you have such a strong background......."

However, I feel like telling you the cold hard truth. Your low GMAT basically matches your low GPA, which convinced the adcom that you could not catch up the competitive study. I dont know how well you did in your job, but your interview most likely did not help too much to flip over their earlier judgement. Eventually, they put your name on the waiting list, because your working experience still look quite good.

If I were you, I will try to get higher GMAT score before they make the final rejection, just to prove I am not a bad student, especially for someone who has studied in such good college in US for under.

If not the reason of GMAT score, so why?
And is there any ranking of the waiting list?
. I have never thought about getting a "WOW" with my bakground in this forum.

You definitely have a point, though, u might have been a little judgemental; I swear with all my hearts that I was not expecting any compliments (especially in this forum where there are too many talents) , all I was trying to do was to present enough info. for ppl. to come up with a more objective opinion.
Though, I am not sure another attempt for the GMAT would be an option to me since I have a fulltime job that I might not have enough time to study to significantly increase my gmat scores before the admission makes a decision anyway.

This is how I see this whole waiting-list thing, they are basically saying you failed the interview, the only chance you might be reconsidered is when they have some accepted applicants reject their offer and they have opennings .(which is very unlikely for a class size like that in SZ; coz only those ppl. who were not planning to go oversees would apply for HKUST SZ programme, and since HKUST ranks 6th in the world and 1st Asia, why would anyone reject it).
So, then again, what luosmwrath said above might be right that the only way to increase your odds to be reconsidered is to give gmat another shot and hope to get a higher score (significantly higher score!).

Alright man, my bad, I guess I was a bit judgmental. What I was trying to say is that your background looks very good, the only problem I could see is your GMAT along with GPA. This is quite an obvious weakness in your application, comparing to your strength, and it is not a surprise that you would be turned down just because of this. As you said HKUST is the best in Asia, you have to be either universally good or there is an absolute strength in your package that few could compare with you.

Anyway, good luck, and "wow" for your background by my heart

the question in the interview is vey simple. But the simple questions have complicated implication to judge whether you are a potential excellent leader and whether you can benefit their school. It is very hard to detect your own problem in the interview. I only can say that good luck to us.

这算不算杯具的waitlist(FT) ?
To camlot,
I think this is just you waiting, its different from you being waitinglisted. They will specifically tell u that u are now on waitinglist if you are.
To zzrobin: just received a "Special Memo" notifying the final decision would be made within four weeks.
Waiting is as torturous as being waitlisted...

hate to be put in the waiting list........

TO:frankiehan2010 ,如果你的确很想得到这个机会,如同我们做SALES 希望把快要失去的ORDER抓住一样,MAKE YOUR LAST TRY. AD OFFICE =APPLE公司的营销手法,很有意思。
