to:楼主 这个题目关键是对后面那个and的理解 这段话本身想表达的是一个对比，而楼主没有看懂这段话的意思 我按自己的理解解释一下 前半部分讲塞隆尼斯·孟克创作的乐曲基于传统的跨越式钢琴风格 后半部分是讲艾灵顿公爵，他却站在主流风格之外（创作乐曲）
其实威利（狮子）史密斯和艾灵顿公爵，根本就没什么关系 完全两种风格的作曲家，这点比较难
可能你被绕进去了，以为：史密斯and艾灵顿都是跨越式钢琴风格的作曲家
所以拼命得纠结both and 结构

STEP1： both用的不对，就算想用，也该放在in the stride-piano tradition of both WIlie(The lion) and D.E, 对吧？这样就排了ABE STEP2： 朗文上说只有be rooted in something：意思是to have developed from something and be strongly influenced by it。这样C没有谓语了，这样只能选D了。

首先 B选项同位语用的和D选项相比明显wordiness and unnecessary grammatical complexity.人的头衔一般放在名字前面，如：Professor Li,而不是Li, the professor.
其实GMAT不会单单考这个点，更明显的错误是both,both跟在rooted后面，修饰rooted,但主语是 a body of work ,不能使用both. 可以用both造句：You and I are rooted both in the country.
