标题: og 91

Like many self-taught artists, Perle Hessing did not begin to paint until she was well into middle age.

A) Like

E) As did

答案是A。我选是选对了,但是当时E把我迷糊了一下。og说是Perle Hessing和many self-taught artists比较。我有时候糊涂,为什么不是Perle Hessing did not begin to paint until she was well into middle age整个动作和many self-taught artists做的比较呢?如果是动作比较的话,那E就是可以的了。

作者: rt316    时间: 2004-6-4 12:58

E的错误我认为是省略部分不匹配。

E省略了to paint until she was well into middle age;翻译成:就像A做XX,B不做XX,逻辑上有问题。比如:就像A做XX,B做XX 或 就像A不做XX,B不做XX,前后动作对应,才比较合乎逻辑。所以E若可行,至少也应该用As did not。但是,要说明的是,感觉倒装好像也不合适,最好是As many self-taught artists did not, ....。当然,即便如此,比起A来E还是比较繁琐。

一家之言,望指正。

Like many self-taught artists, Perle Hessing did not begin to paint until she was well into middle age.

A) Like

E) As did

简洁性:如果意思同样,like+名词/代词比as+谓语简洁。

逻辑意思:many self-taught artists和Perle Hessing同样的范畴,应该是同样的动作, Perle Hessing did not那么many self-taught artists也应该did not,like就表明了这种同样的动作,相当于as did not 。而用as did则garble/tamper the meaning,表明Perle Hessing did not,但是many self-taught artists did。

但如果比较的对象是对立的范畴,如adult,child,则动作可能是对立的,也可能不对立。这时用like不妥当,要用as did或as did not清晰的表明动作的相同或对立。

我觉得这里这里不能用 as did是因为会有理解错误。

究竟是 象 其他artists一样没做,P也没做

还是          其他artists做了, P没做

所以不太好。事实上它这里 的 as did 是想表达 as did not的含义。还是用like比较好。

也谢谢,judye! 我有时候晕,判断比较的是人还是动作的时候晕。呵呵,不过选的时候能及时拨乱反正,答案基本能选出来。

新东方老师说:因为谓语有两个动词,did和was,所以补did只能象其中的一个部分,表达意思不完整

以下是引用egretxm在2004-10-12 9:42:00的发言:

this is an example in Longman:

He did not need to keep moving house, as his father had.

这个是否和本题相似? 我实在不理解og的这一段解释:

Choices B and E, which replace A’s prepositional phrase with clauses introduced by as, use auxiliary verbs that cannot properly be completed by any part of the verb phrase in the main clause: neither have... did not begin nor did... did not begin is logically or grammatically sound.

查了查,发现stoneren和tianwan的注释有点问题,至少不能解释我上面贴出来得。倒是笨MM的能解释

stoneren和tianwan的解释没有问题,我来补充说明一下好了
楼上给出的这个例句的意思是:他不需要总是不断的搬家,就像他父亲(省略总是不断的搬家)那样。(即他不像他的父亲,总是需要不断的搬家)。所以his father后的是had,而he后的是did not,不存在逻辑问题

like many self-taught artists.P did not begin to paint until she was well into middle age. 当用 As did表示只和until前的话平行对比,而和was无关;但是句子意思却要求反映这帮artists直到中年才开始绘画,这时不能补出2个不同的助动词,所以是A

我比较赞成weiyuGG和苯MM的看法,

Choices B and E, which replace A’s prepositional phrase with clauses introduced by as, use auxiliary verbs that cannot properly be completed by any part of the verb phrase in the main clause: neither have... did not begin nor did... did not begin is logically or grammatically sound.

但这似乎只解释了OG中关于逻辑上的错误,没有解释语法上的呀语法上从朗曼的例子看,前后是动词肯否定是可以不一致的阿

this is an example in Longman:

He did not need to keep moving house, as his father had.

补充补充,刚才看了一个贴,突然有了些思路

这里得ungrammatical是不是指不平行,是指结构上,即as did sb,sb did not do sth.应该是

as sb did,sb did not do sth.这样才平行

讨论一下

as did sb和as sb did 两个形式在语法上都正确吗?

Because young children do not organize their attention or perceptions systematically, as adults do, they may notice and remember details that their elders ignore.

这句句子中是as sb did,

就不知道as did sb倒装有没有问题?

作者: amiaoma    时间: 2006-6-28 12:47

我想谈一下我的看法,尽管这个帖子已经是很早以前的了,但它在对91题的讨论中集中了最有代表性的观点…………

我比较认同:as sb did 才是grammatically right,而不是as did sb

我没有见过这样子的倒装。倒装分全倒装和部分倒装,所谓全部倒装是指整个谓语部分放在主语前面;而部分倒装是指谓语的一部分(情态动词或助动词)放在主语之前。很显然,as did sb和倒装毫无关系。(只是个花招)

至于logically wrong 就更没问题了,之前也有人说了

可以倒装的E如885SECTION13

22.   In its most recent approach, the comet Crommelin passed the Earth at about the same distance and in about the same position, some 25 degrees above the horizon, as will Halley’s comet the next time it appears.

LIke表示Perle Hessing 象MANY SELF-TAUGHT ARTISTS一样中年才。。。。。

而AS DID,表示Perle Hessinga 不象many self-taught artists一样中年才做什么

具体你可以参考有关题目,说的是小孩子的视力不象大人那样转多少次,如果大人那样,就失明了。当时选的是AS ADULTS DO,记不的是那倒题了,
