标题: 比较之庖丁解牛续之动词补出原则 - - 以as likely as与more likely than应用为例
和more than的应用:
(一)as likely as:
(1) According to a 1996 study published in the Journal of Human Resources, Americans of Middle Eastern descent were twice as likely as the average American to be self-employed.
1:The Arthritis Research Institute of America advises women of color that they are twice as likely as White women to get osteoarthritis of the knee.
类似2:According to a survey of graduating medical students conducted by the Association of American Medical Colleges, minority graduates are nearly four times as likely as other graduates to plan on practicing in socioeconomically deprived areas.
(2)According to a new report by the surgeon general, women with less than a high school education were three times as likely to begin smoking as women who went to college.
(3) Traffic safety officials predict that drivers will be as likely to exceed the proposed speed limit as they are the current one.
(二)more than:
Stresses that girls experience are more likely to result in depression than are those that boys experience.
1:prep2-132. A study published in the British Medical Journal showed that women who ate nuts more than five times a week were about one third less likely to suffer from coronary heart disease than were those who ate no nuts at all.
Authoritative parents are more likely than permissive parents to have children who as adolescents are self-confident, high in self-esteem, and responsibly independent.
1:A survey of 765 working women over eighteen years of age found that 60 percent of them worked 40 or more hours a week and that married women with children under eighteen were more likely than other married women to work shifts different from their husbands'.
类似2:A study on couples' retirement transitions found that, unlike men who took new jobs after retiring from their primary careers, women who did so were more likely than those who retired completely to report high marital satisfaction.
675. Studies show that young people with higher-than-average blood pressure whose families have a history of high blood pressure are more likely than others to develop a severe form of the condition.
Shipwrecks are more likely to be found undisturbed at great depths than in shallow coastal waters, where archaeological remains are exposed to turbulence and are accessible to anyone in scuba gear, whether archaeologist, treasure hunter, or sport diver.
768.The investor who is uncertain about the future is more likely to put money into blue-chip stocks or treasury bills than into gold.
According to a recent study, the elderly in the United States are four times more likely to give regular financial aid to their children than to receive it from them.
à不补出谓语动词,直接加宾/表语,be likely to do结构中,be为谓语动词,likely为形容词,to do可视为宾/表语。
Results of a United States study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine have shown that college-educated women and women living in the South and West are significantly more likely to use supplemental hormones than women living in the Northeast and Midwest.

谢谢Aeolueros(对不起,名字写错了,我改过来了!)

GWD26-Q28
Traffic safety officials predict that drivers willbe equally likely to exceed the proposed speed limit as the current one.
A.equally likely to exceed the proposed speed limit as they are
B.as likely to exceed the proposed speed limitas they are

-- by 会员 ZhuLi0829 (2011/5/8 14:59:30)
the current one如果修饰临近分句而one指代driver,意思会很奇怪,所以compared to修饰的是speed,one同时也指代它,但是可以肯定的一点是这个句子没有用as...as...

(A) are those that boys experience
(B) what boys experience
(C) boys' experience would
(D) boys' stress patterns do
(E) stress patterns of boys
87题中 第二个women前不需加be动词,women (living in A) are more likely to use
hormones than women (living in B).
college-educated women and women living in the South and West are significantly more likely to use supplemental hormones than women living in the Northeast and Midwest
嗯,这个帖子说的就是be more likely to ... than和be as likely to as的主系表结构。

Results of a United States study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine have shown college-educated women and women living in the South and West to be significantly more likely to be using supplemental hormones as women living in the Northeast and Midwest

(D) that college-educated women and women who live in the South and West are significantly more likely to be using supplemental hormones as were women that lived
(E) that college-educated women and women living in the South and West are significantly more likely to use supplemental hormones than women living
对于加不加谓语动词,我的判断是会不会产生歧义,这道题加are就表明是主语之间的比较,但实际上supplemental hormone也是名词,完全可以理解为用more likely to use supplemental hormone than use women....
不用加,往往加助动词的原因是因为为了明确是 主语与主语之间的比较,但是这道题,显然不会发生语意上的歧义,所以是没必要加的,因为在语义上 college-educated women and women are more likely to use A than women living in the Northeast and Midwest, 不可能理解成 women use A 比 use 另外一个地区的women 多吧。。
hope it helps~-- by 会员 jameshzd (2011/7/16 21:50:28)
Again, 就是设想所有gramatically and logically satisfied interpretations
Analogy:

Thomas Eakins's powerful style and his choices of subject--the adv ...
比如,如果前面出现了make/makes/made,那么就用do/does/didi代替,若果是has/have made,则用has/have;如果是 is/are/was/were making,则用 is/are/was/were。这里面,只有前面出现了相同的make/makes/made/have made/making才能省略。
