Twoyears ago, the government of Runagia increased by 20 percent thegovernment-provided pensions paid to Runagians over 65. The aim of the increase was to stimulate theeconomy in the rural regions of the country, where most pension recipientslive. Statistics, however, show thatthere has been no increase in economic activity in those regions since then, but that there has been noticeably more spending in the urban areas. Whichof the following, if true, most helps to explain why the increase resulted inthe unintended state of affairs described?
A.Until the pensions were increased, many Runagians over 65 in rural regions had been receivingsupport from their children who live in urban areas. B.The pensions were increased when the number of people below the poverty levelin rural areas of Runagia reached an all-time high. C.City-dwellers in Runagia rarely travel to rural regions of the country. D.The Runagian postal system is so inefficient that it can take up to three weeksfor pension checks to reach recipients in rural areas. E.On average, the pensions were higher in rural than in urban areas before theincrease. 选A
22.  lan: Concerned about the welfare of itssenior citizens, the government of Runagia decided two years ago to increase by 20 percent the government-provided pension paid to allRunagians age sixty-five and older.
Result: Many Runagian senior citizens are no better off financially nowthan they were before the increase.
Further information: The annual rate of inflationsince the pension increase has been below 5 percent, and the increased pension has been duly received by all eligible Runagians.
In light of the further information, which of thefollowing, if true, does most to explain the result that followed implementation of the plan?
(A) Themajority of senior citizens whose financial position has not improved relyentirely on the government pension for their income. (B) TheRunagian banking system is so inefficient that cashing a pension check can takeas much as three weeks. (C) The pricesof goods and services that meet the special needs of many senior citizens haveincreased at a rate much higher than the rate of inflation. (D) The pensionincrease occurred at a time when the number of Runagians age sixty-five andolder who wereliving below the poverty levelwas at an all-time high. (E) The mostrecent pension increase was only the second such increase in the last tenyears.
。。。。。 1.If the government increased pensions, children who live in urban areas could use the money in the urban areas that would have spent on their parents. 2.C is obvious作者: Gail小M 时间: 2011-4-12 10:39
87/ is similar to a paradox question. U have to add a piece of information that shows how the TWO occurences can coexist<allow BOTH sides to be factually correct>
2 occurences:1)show that there has been no increase in economic activity in those regions since the 2),but that there has been noticeably more spending in the urban areas.
B can explain 1),那么就说明这个all-time high老龄人数是可以导致没有better-off 照这个道理,22的D不就应该是对的吗?作者: swimswan 时间: 2011-4-12 21:43
Thanks for answering me.
22/ focus on "In light of the further information,"
The author wants u to explain: The Inflation is below 5 percent (which is low), however, many Runagian senior citizens are no better off financially now than they were before the increase
D: The most recent pension increase was only the second such increase in the last TEN years
that explains the base of the pension can be very low, even the percentage is 20%, elderly people still can not get enough money to withstand the inflation of 5%, or to be better off.
