A的问题在于分词短语的修饰对象不清, 可以修饰B.P., 也可以修饰book illustrations. 1楼说的也是一个原因, them指代不清. 可以注意到正确答案里面没有了them, 用which明确修饰book illustrations.
现在分词短语修饰的时候, 有正在进行中的含义. 过去分词有被动的含义. 一般表伴随状态或结果.
楼主的例句在GMAT里面百分百不会出现, 一定是The girl who failed in the exam is his sister. 用限制性定语从句来修饰.作者: sasha_wen 时间: 2011-5-10 09:48
菜鸟的理解，大家拍砖 A项：OG将其理解为现在分词是应为coordinating them with her narratives中coordinate显然是作为动词用的 假设coordinating作为形容词则修饰illustration,显然错误，因为发出coordinate的动作的是BP而不是illustration 假设coordinating作为分词修饰动作capitalized,那时间顺序上不通，因为是先有she carefully coordinated with her narratives再表现出BP capitalized on her keen observation and love of the natural world，而不是coordinate的同时表现出capitalized
