答案选E吧？
A太啰嗦了，in addition to how, when 什么的，没这说法啊，干掉
B形势就觉得不怎么爽，干掉
对比CDE，感觉to determine和for determining差不多，先放着，后面是说提供线索用来知道when和how mammals colonized the islands of the West Indies 的，感觉WHEN和HOW的关系是并列，且DE中后面出现了when they did和how they were，还要让人想they指代什么，所以E的答案更清晰，语意上也比较流畅

请你搞清楚to do 和for doing的区别。 for doing在一般情况表目的是累赘的但是to do 在c中的主语指代错误

请你搞清楚to do 和for doing的区别。 for doing在一般情况表目的是累赘的但是to do 在c中的主语指代错误

1楼的回复真是够牛X。。。。。绝对老管呀。。。
不过我看到的是动词为provide——而只有provide sth for doing、从没有provide sth to do 的表达方式。。。。。。。。再根据代词指代不清。。。。。得出E

动词不定式的逻辑主语为discovery，discovery不可能去determine，如果改为provide clues for scientists to determine 就可以。

我想艾琳说的是

for XXXX
to XXXX
的所代主语不同
以本句为例，S是scientists 然后底线之前的N是clues
for 配clues
to 配 scientists

1. 语意：determine后面是说可以决定"如何"和"什么时候"mammals colonized岛，可以知道是cluse能够决定，scientists不能决定

2.Picky：C选项中的when "they" did指代谁呢？照理来説指代平行中一样位置的N
所以可以找到是指代mammals，但是，你看到他用了when they "did"既然连动词都省略了，他的指代词同理不也应该省吗？省完之后会发现
to determine how......and "when"
就把关代绑在一起吧，你就会看到结果是E的选项，然后改掉to 变 for

这一题没有走"较佳"的选项，有些题目非要你选文法和语意表达清晰看起来丑死了的选项，但是其他选项在文法层就删了，所以"只能"选他......就请大家多留意吧
