标题: OG 116
Mauritius was a British colony for almost 200 years, excepting for the domains of
administration and teaching, the English language was never really spoken on
the island.

A. excepting for
B. except i
C. but except in
D. but excepting for
E. with the exception of

the answer is C
I  would like to raise some questions :

Except could be a conjunction only if used to connect words. for connecting sentence except that should be used.

except is  used to connect words of parallel concept while except for is for not paralleled ones.

for the domain makes little sense than in the domain which means within the area.

except for是复合介词,不用加ing,excepting for是不存在的!
