标题: Booth or Haas with 50% scholarship?
四大+boutique IB，5年工作经验，毕业后打算回国（如果能留在美国更好，去加拿大也可以考虑），工作跟金融有关的，prefer大的PE/VC，北京、上海、香港都行。
两个学校综合排名差不多，但是Finance 排名，Booth明显好很多，而且总体reputation也好。
现在比较矛盾，主要是Berkeley也有他的优势，除了 50% scholarship 外，还有就是他在加州，有很多clean tech 和bio tech 公司，很希望能有机会把这些企业带回国内发展，也算是一种entrepreneur吧。
希望对这两个学校比较了解的CDer给些建议，谢谢。

Depends what you want to do. Given your history, money probably isn't an issue. If you want to stay in finance you should definitely go for Booth. That Clean Tech and Bio Tech story is for you to get in. It's not that realistic to stick to it.

Judging by a friend (just a small sample) pool who is a 1st year there, that VC/Clean Tech stuff isn't that easy to get in, at least it's not the most realistic immediate post-MBA track. BTW his choices were Haas 50% scholarship vs Darden with no money. This is a much different decision.

Booth is a much better fit for LZ.

看LZ是否一定要毕业以后马上就去VC/PE了.如果LZ以后想做VC,那么MBA毕业后先去加州的一些新兴科技公司会很有帮助.Haas在这方面机会更多吧.如果LZ要做PE,Haas应该比不上Chicago吧.完全看LZ自己的方向.

given the lower salary in comparison with US, canada may not be a good choice. It would be another story if you need a canadian PR.

你要是选finance还是booth吧，HAAS的强项多在创业/高科技管理之类。

当然，我现在也预见不到两年后会不会直接去VC。现在想法是找一家大的公司，利用大公司的平台，丰富一下自己，而且我觉得大公司的brand name对于整个career的发展也会有一定帮助的。这样看来，是不是肯定就是Booth了。

I wiill vote for Haas considering:
1. The ROI. You have to double your discounted income in your lifetime to attend Booth. I can hardly see how that's possible.
2. Long-term development. In the long-run your career depends on your ability to source deals, which means you need business relationship in the corporate and entrepreneurship world. Finance School's alumni may be too concentrated in finance, leading to less opportunities in business development.
3. Balance of program. Booth's program is too quant heavy and too little training on soft skills/management techniqes. Again, in the long run these skills will determine your position, not these number crunching techy stuff- esp if you intend to stay in the US.
4. Location. If you would pick snow storms rather than sunshine...
5. PE/VC activities are HUGE in the west coast.

Top tier B-schools all provide you with the tickets to your career immediately after MBA, the rest really just depends on your personal capabilities. Don't be fooled by rankings.

Lastly, you'd better really SEE if your career plan has been worked out by predesessors. "Big corporate name would help my career", but HOW? What's your intended industry? Are you planning another career change in the mid-term? Have you seen similar career paths? (Suggestion: you can read published annual reports, which include briefings of directors' career paths.)

Given by your experience and career goal, I vote for Booth.
Haas does attract lots of bio-tech and clean-tech recruiters but they have very limited seats unlike IB and MC firms and the competition is fierce, offers are usually given to those engineering/entrepreneurship background students.
Booth however, provides much more options and flexibility for you regarding your background and your potential intention to stay in US
