7.If a single strain of plant is used for a given crop over a wide area, a practice fostered by modern seed-marketing methods, it increases the likelihood that the impact of a single crop disease or pest will be disastrous.

(A) If a single strain of plant is used for a given crop over a wide area, a practice fostered by modern seed-marketing methods, it

(B) If a single strain of plant is used for a given crop over a wide area, as is fostered by modern seed-marketing methods, it

(C) A practice fostered by modern seed-marketing methods, a single strain of plant used for a given crop over a wide area

(D) A single strain of plant used for a given crop over a wide area, a practice fostered by modern seed-marketing methods,E

(E) The use of single strain of plant for a given crop over a wide area, a practice fostered by modern seed-marketing methods,

Choice A is faulty because the pronoun it and the appositive a practice each lack a noun referent. Nor are there logical referents in choice B for as is and it. Choice C entails a false appositive: the sentence now says that the single strain of plant is itself a practice fostered by modern seed-marketing methods, not that the use of a single strain is such a practice. Choice D reverses the order of the constructions, but the appositive remains illogical. Choice E is correct: use is the proper subject for the verb increases and a logical governing noun for the appositive practice. This question is of middle difficulty.

ETS说“Choice A is faulty because the pronoun it and the appositive a practice each lack a noun referent”.... 我想问的是,如果我理解成a practice指代前面的a single strain of plant is used for a given crop over a wide area这句话可以吗?

228.        Corporations will soon be required to report to the government whether they have the necessary reserves to pay the pension benefits earned by their employees and that the information be published in annual reports to shareholders.

(A) earned by their employees and that the information be published

(B) that their employees earned and that the information be published

(C) that was earned by their employees with the information being published

(D) earned by their employees, information that must also be publishedD

(E) earned by their employees and published the information

不可以,这里的 practice指代的是the use of a single strain of plant  for a given crop over a wide area.注意,use在这里才是practice得同位语:use is the proper subject for the verb increases and a logical governing noun for the appositive practice。。。

A的问题是it。

There are no legal limits, as there are for cod and haddock, on the size of the monkfish that can be caught, a circumstance that contributes to their depletion through overfishing.

A.  There are no legal limits, as there are for cod and haddock, on the size of the monkfish that can be caught, a circumstance that contributes to their depletion through overfishing

B. There are no legal limits on the size of monkfish that can be caught, unlike cod or haddock, a circumstance that contributes to depleting them because they are being overfished.

C. There are legal limits on the size of cod and haddock that can be caught, but not for monkfish, which contributes to its depletion through overfishing.

D. Unlike cod and haddock, there are no legal size limits on catching monkfish, which contributes to its depletion by being overfished.

E.  Unlike catching cod and haddock, there are no legal size limits on catching monkfish, contributing to their depletion because they are overfished.

总觉得上题的B怪怪的,插入语unlike cod or haddock的位置容易引起a circumstance是在同位指代前面的cod or haddock,尽管逻辑意思上完全讲不通。

A的问题是it。

我觉得A中,a practice不能指代前面if引导的条件从句。
