标题: GWD7-Q4，这个B选项的than可以做连词同时指代people？
218.(GWD7-Q4)Only seven people this century have been killed by the great white shark, the man-eater of the movies—less than those killed by bee stings.

A.movies—less than those

B.movies—fewer than have been

C.movies, which is less than those

D.movies, a number lower than the people(B)

E.movies, fewer than the ones

答案貌似只能选B，数量不用less用fewer，排除AC,D项a number也不该和the people比较，E的话时态不对称。
但是我想问的是Prep语法笔记上面说than可以做连词同时也指代了people，这个我就彻底懵了，真的假的啊？麻烦各位大神给点启发，感激不尽。

than真的可以做连词同时又指代people嘛？PREP语法笔记这么讲的，我觉得很难理解啊。。。
