S points:
1. 这句话的意思有点别扭，提取主干翻译一下“对许多修正主义的历史学家而言，CC成为了毁灭和奴役的代名词”
2. devastation and enslavement应该看作整体，因为在这个句子里面，它们虽然是两件事情，但是性质是一样的 -- 也就是说，从同一个角度看这两个事情。
3. 综上that后面应该用has.

对于devastation and enslavement前面是否要用the. 我想既然没有前文，不需要特指，不用the也是可以的。

我是这样翻译的：在很多修正主义历史学家眼里，(CC)以名义上的"进步"杀害西半球土著民族，CC成了毁灭与奴役的代名词/化身(或者说，CC活化了毁灭与奴役)。
如果这么翻译，我想progress可以成为decimate的动作发出者，而devastation and enslavement就不能成为decimate的发出者了。

One possible explanation for A is to treat the phrase "devastation and enslavement in the name of progress" as the object which decimated people. But this kind of usage is really rare, even in GMAT questions.

Agreed. A的话decimate动作发出者就是progress了。我觉得逻辑上讲E更加准确。纠结于A和E的原因有：
1. E中that修饰的先行词devastation and enslavement太远了
2. E中两个定冠词the显得有点多余
3. devastation and enslavement这种结构在GMAT中似乎算复数比较多，不能确定，谁给个准？

last but not least，A和E都显得不完美，请问实战中应该优先排除那个？

个人觉得 personify...in the name of progress 是一个完整的意思。如果选E的话，那that就直接跳过in the name of progress 修饰 devastation and enslavement，好像把personify和in the name ofprogress生生掰开了。从整体语义上就有些说不通了。

我觉得选E，progress不能decimate people，所以that只能修饰devastation and enslavement 是这两个东东导致了人口急剧下降。
一开始有点困惑为什么B不对= =，但后来发觉从句后改成被动，就不知道是谁或什么decimate了people，所以eliminate B

choice (a) is incorrect because of the singular verb "has", whose only legitimate antecedent is "progress". that doesn't make sense; progress is not what decimated native peoples. the native peoples were decimated by devastation and enslavement, so you need a plural verb.

so a is not right.

我个人支持E，
1.指代不清：先来看A选项，that has..., 根据has，第一种理解是就近修饰progress, 而progress decimated peoples 不合逻辑，第二种理解是只要是单数名词都有可能，可能修饰devastation 、 enslavement和 progress，因此从代词的角度E很好的用have decimated点名修饰的是devastation and enslavement，避免了歧义。
2.修饰明确：in the name of （以....名义）是个固定词组，是adv修饰，肯定是跳过修饰the devastation and enslavement 修饰personify，怎么会有歧义？放哪里都是修饰动词，理解无问题
3.逻辑语义是关键：再来通过logic来翻译一下，如果翻译成CC已经将破坏和奴隶制以进步的名义人性化，这种进步已经毁灭了西半球的许多当地民族——that指代process进步，进步破坏了民族；而如果翻译成CC已经将破坏和奴隶制以进步的名义人性化，这种破坏和奴隶制已经毁灭了西半球的许多当地民族——that指代the devastation and enslavement，是破坏和奴隶制度毁灭了一个民族。
我个人认为第二个是合理的。也根据翻译，其personify的就应该是特指the devastation and enslavement，所以用the没有问题，反而会有强调的作用。
