these 指代不好，很有可能会有指代歧义和指代不清晰，一般的确不能单独指代，但也不能作为排除一个选项的唯一决定性理由！

此题中DE"Besides adding complentary flavors to many foods" is supposed to modify hot sauces, so D and E is out.
C：modify“ hot sauces and exercise ” rule out.

beween A and B, we should point out in B, it mentions“and they have a pain-relieving effect that is likemorphine”
wrong: it should be " they have a pain-relieving effect (that is) like morphine's" thus B is out

其实我觉得 A： these B :they 指代都不清晰
GT的错误选项不会只给你一个(一般情况下都错的)错误(such as these)，一定会给你一个或几个以上的决定性错误！

我一直以为these单独使用可以作为绝对排除选项看。
