103. Students in the metropolitan school district lack math skills to such a large degree as to make it difficult to absorb them into a city economy becoming ever more dependent on information-based industries.
(A) lack math skills to such a large degree as to make it difficult to absorb them into a city economy becoming
(B) lack math skills to a large enough degree that they will be difficult to absorb into a city’s economy that becomes
(C) lack of math skills is so large as to be difficult to absorb them into a city’s economy that becomes
(D) are lacking so much in math skills as to be difficult to absorb into a city’s economy becoming(E)
(E) are so lacking in math skills that it will be difficult to absorb them into a city economy becoming
有absorb sth into sth
be absorbed in sth
be absorbed into sth
没有absorb sb into sth。
them=students
absorb sb/sth into sth
here sb and sth have no different.
lack of math skills is so large as to be difficult to absorb them into a city’s economy that becomes
OG解释说them指代错误,就是因为lack作为名词成为这句话的主语lack of math skills is so large 。

而且og对C的解释是and them refers illogically to skills rather than students,
(C) lack of math skills is so large as to be difficult to absorb them into a city’s economy that becomes
整个句子省略后为:students to absorb them into a city;这样一来,them根本不可能指代students,而是them出现之前的另外一个复数词:skills;
(E) are so lacking in math skills that it will be difficult to absorb them into a city economy becoming
so that表结果,that后可以变成:to absorb them into a city will be difficult,这里的them优先指代主语,与前面各位说的相似,楼主疑惑的应该是C中的them为何不可指代students而E中可以指代的问题,上述的划线部分给出了我的个人意见。

(E) are so lacking in math skills that it will be difficult to absorb them into a city economy becoming
如果是代math skills應該是 are so lacking in math skills that it will be difficult to absorb themselves into a city economy..............

lack is a singular noun, but them is a plural pronourn .
hence the antecedent of them should be skills
open to discussion
open to discussion!
Up!
open to discussion! 短信welcome oh!
首先说C:
103. Students in the metropolitan school district lack math skills to such a large degree as to make it difficult to absorb them into a city economy becoming ever more dependent on information-based industries.
(C) lack of math skills is so large as to be difficult to absorb them into a city’s economy that becomes
Students in the metropolitan school district lack of math skills is so large as to be difficlut to absorb them into a city's economy that becomes ever more dependent on information-based industries.
