同问，其实我的理解是b和b是nineteenth的作家，j和v是twentieth的作家，然后这句话就是说就像b和b一样，j和v也怎么样。。

解释的真好不过还是有疑问:

为什么要说 the Brontes and Brownings, 而不是Bronte and Browning? 如果the Greens 是指Green一家人,那么这里不是一家人啊

这里是the Brontes/ and Brownings, 和James Joyce and Virginia Woolf对比

the Brontes特指勃朗特三姐妹（而不是某个family），而Brownings是另外一个人。

这几个人都是writers，对比对象一致。
