The ratio of dicorces to marriages has increased since 1940. Therefore, there must be a greater proportion of children living with only natural parent than there was in 1940.
Which of the following, if ture, most strongly weakens the inference drawn above?
A The number of marriages entered into by women twenty-five to thirty-five years old has decreased since 1940.
B When there is a divorce , children are often given the option of deciding which parent they want to live with.

答案是E,但我觉E答案不具有代表性,因父母的一方死去的单亲家庭的孩子比例变少了"并不能代表"所有单亲家庭孩子的比例减少.

请大侠赐教,提供思路.

You only need to cast doubts on the conclusion, thus, weaken it. You do not need to PROVE the conclusion is wrong.

If E is right, it is POSSIBLE that the conclusion is wrong.

I do not know the Chinese definition of all kinds of logical fallacy. E basically provides one scenariao in which the conclusion "there must be a greater proportion of children living with only natural parent than there was in 1940" could be wrong.

why A is not answer,I think the decrease in the number of marrage entered into by women 25-30 also can explain the reason why rate of divorces to marrages has increased.

A does not mention the key word CHILDREN. Thus, it is out of scope.

Do you regard one scenaro indicate the trend of one kind of component out of children raised by natural parents is contradicted to the trend the conclusion mentioned as a weakness?

and do you can indicate what kind of logic fallacy the argument belong to?
