A 相当于将Halley's Comet 与 its return in 1910-1911 比较， 比较对象不对等 D 同理，将Halley's Comet 与 its return of 1910-1911比较，比较对象不对等 A与D 并没有本质的区别，都是主语比较，只不过一个用了部分倒装did 提前，一个没有用。主语核心词都是its return, 后面的修饰成分用in+时间 或者of+时间，功能相同,都是给核心词补充信息。

补充一下：因为这题是时间状语比较，In no other historical sighting 和in its return of 1910-1911作比较，than后直接补出状语即可。但比较成分是主语，than前是主谓宾结构，主语谓语都不能省。I eat apple faster than you do。若是主谓结构，只需表主语。I eat faster than you。若是系表结构，除非有时间限制修饰主语，否者也只留主语。The picture is more famous than it was in 1990.
