(D) without that, they could never be secure about their grip on Algeria
(E) never would their grip on Algeria be secure if they did not hold it

answer,b why?

（a)错误明显，单是时态就可排除了
(c)中not ever, 错误如此明显，out!
(d) witout that, that 用法错误。
（e) 因从句里不能用倒装，马上排除。
