以下是狗中的说法，请确认下哈~~
1、a large number of xxxs 主谓一致问题谓语动词用复数

2、

分词短语开头，后面紧跟着的逻辑主语应该是一个人，而非一个东西。

另外从狗中产生了一个疑惑：

不对呀~那就不该跟an American啦~肯定是of前的。但是这是什么用法。。

Novels written by a Black American means a single author for each of these novels.

Novels written by Black Americans means multiple authors for each of these novels.

As to choosing the answer for this question, you have to understand the structure of the sentence. Here the parallelism is among the NOVELS and E is the best to display the correct grammar in this regard: author's novel title.

In B, the structure used is novel title by aruthor.

1. 对的，a large number of + 可数名词复数 + 复数谓语动词
2. 分词短语开始其实只要看逻辑主语是否符合，比如一个动作，可以是人执行的，也可以是一个物体执行的。所以不一定分词短语开头就一定要用人做主语。

A of B done C这个结构中done过去分词可以修饰A of B，也可以修饰B，看语法和逻辑。
而E选项中，因为C是a Black American，所以语法上根据单复数是修饰A of B的。
而且逻辑上，因为后面两本书都是一个作者一本书，所以用单数更加合适。而不会产生多个人写一本书的歧义，虽然这里用Black Americans语法上没有错误，只是逻辑上不如E选项明确。

An easy way to tell which noun is modified by written is to compare the followings:

one ever written by a Black American

three best novels ever written by a Black American

and see which one can express the ideas the author tries to convey. The winner seems to be the latter.
