(9) If the gift received today, a NBA jersey, had been sent by someone who knows Ming well, that person would have known that Ming prefers the Rockets to the Lakers. Yet Ming received a Lakers’ jersey. On the other hand, if the jersey had been sent by someone who does not know Ming well, then that person would have sent a note together with the gift. Yet Ming received no note. Therefore, the delivery man must have made some sort of mistake when delivering Ming the package today: either Ming was supposed to receive a Rockets’ jersey, or a note, or this jersey was intended for someone else.
Which one of the following statements, if true, most weakens the argument?
(A) Most people buy Lakers’ jersey when they send the jersey as a gift.
(B) Some people send gifts for a reason other than the desire to please the person on the receiving end.
(C) Someone who does not know Ming well would be unlikely to send Ming a jersey.
(D) The delivery man has never delivered the wrong package to Ming before.
(E) Some people who know Ming well have sent Ming notes along with gifts.
Apparently the sender achieved his or her purpose since B is the answer. Good reasoning displayed by Kevin and s.
Why not E? If E could happen, then that means people who know Ming well will not only send him a gift, a gift with notes is also possible. Then the conclusion would be wrong.
