Its customers are wealthy people looking for gourmet food and luxury shopping experience, so it must cut costs without hurting the customers' shopping experience. So it plans to layoff 10 employees per store and eliminate expensive displays and free samples. In addition, it will partner with Cabaree Coffee Cafe to have a coffee shop in each store. This is supported by a recent survey that the Grocers and the Cafe attract similar types of customers. The conclusion is that Greentree Grocers will experience high sales volume as well as high profit margin.
正文 The author concludes that the Greentree Grocer can gain high sales volume and profit margin at the same time through some attemptions. Several reason are offered to support the conclusion. First of all, the author assume that the target customers who are lured away be the high-quality goods and special shopping experience,so the company can lower the cost which cannot hurt the basic experience request. In addition, the author also alleged that introducing a coffer bar would be a wonderful idea that obviously shown on the recent survey. However, I have to point out that the argument is unconvincing in several reasons as follows. First, The author's assertion rests on the assumption that the low cost without hurting the lucury shopping experience is sufficient to give birth to the increase of the profit margin. However, if it turns out that the profit margin is determined by a combanition of factors, quality of goods and service, the behavior of lowing cost might be so harmful that cannot gurantee the shopping experience. Second, the recent survey that introducing a cafe bar might bloost the level of shopping experience is not necessary torepresent the actual views. The author fails to give us suffiencient information except the survey, providing unacceptable conlusion due to the simple assumption. And also, without knowing how the surve was conducted, it is impossible to assess whether or not this is the case. Third,as the economic theory, the profit margin is conducted by the remainer of selling price minus cost,if the conclusion based on the above assumption were to work out, the result would only provide the high sale volume which expected by the author'assertion mentioned in the last sentence. However, the high sale volume cannot directly gain the high profit margin without the information about the sale price per volume. To sum up, the argument is not persuasive as it stands.Accordingly, it is imprudent for the author to claim that the grocer can win the high sales volume as well as high profit margin. To make this assumption logically acceptable, the author would have to show the basic knowledge about the goods and the grocer company. In addition, to solify the conclusion, the author should provide evidence to demostrate that thr caction performed by the owner would have the good result which is based on careful research and inverstigation with precise statistics.
