分词不是可以做状语吗？

分词是可以做状语，但一般是修饰整句的，即主要是修饰主语的谓语动词的，表示主句主语的伴随动作或结果，你从这个角度试着连一下看看意思别不别扭。

本句画线部分的意思主要是修饰人的。

E 的establishing跟using 可以修飾the Turkish sultan和Athens，所以語意不清

我认为是时态不对，将分词还原为定语从句后只能是一般时态动词或一个进行时态动词。

They plan to build a highway leading(which lead) into the mountains.

There are three boys swimming (who are swimming) in the river.

OG解释已经说的很清楚了，establishing和using修饰Athens，即逻辑主语是Athens,而句子原意是要后面的成分来修饰Turkish sultan的，所以错误。

同意楼上的说法，另外XDF的石林也说了，现在分词是重复性动作，而定从是一次性动作。
