Finance PhD, University of Houston

Anyone knows anything about this program? The faculty seems OK but there is no placement data. I'd appreciate any info.

well, this is a top 70 school and used to be top50 business school. I don't know if it is good enough for most people

in terms of placement, they are doing pretty good. of course, job searching is all about what you have. some people have great communication skill but graduated from a bad school, but their job placement will be easier than people who cannot speak english in a top program.

Julia,

Yeah, I got in, though it is the only school (and my backup) that got me in. It appears that this year's competition is fierce. I wish I could get in a top 30, sigh...

FunnyTiger,

You said "they are doing pretty good". Are you talking about the finance PhD graduates or MBAs? I can't find the ranking of Houston's MBA since Houston does not have a full-time MBA program. Based on research productivity, the Houston finance dept. ranks somewhere between 45 and low 70. But its PhD placement does not look too good. Of course, I do realize that a graduate's placement heavily depends on his/her credentials.

houston is not bad with regard to its reseach productivity. see below,

mei9, are you sure that we are talking about the same U of Houston?

The one I know they have full-time MBA program, once they were ranked top30 program. recently they dropped but arguably one of the top50 MBA program.

Their MBA placement is very similar to Rice, affected by energy companies... up and down.

note that the above ranking list is about total output rather than productivity. It disregards the size of faculty, and this is unfair to smalll schools.

julia-722

我去年申请过university of Houston 的Phd in Finance, 结果被拒了。 GMAT 720 GRE 2320 TOFEL 643.
