选C， make a synthetic ..... 语义重复；且D中的painstakingly意指的对象貌似是scientist，不合逻辑。

选C， make a synthetic ..... 语义重复；且D中的painstakingly意指的对象貌似是scientist，不合逻辑。

为啥就语义重复了呢？painstakingly如果修饰的对象不是scientist，那是什么呢？

ignore other problems, the meaning in D is wrong.

(C) scientists learned how to synthesize the growth hormone, it had to be painstakingly removed---Here "it" means growth hormone.

(D) learning how to make a synthetic growth hormone, scientists had to remove it painstakingly--Here"it" means "a synthetic growth hormone"

Before the scientists have the ability to synthetic growth hormone. remove what? the "synthetic growth hormone"? WRONG
it should be " growth hormone"

focu on the meaning of "it", sometimes it can change the original meaing of the sentence.
