选项分析：A.Unlike连接结构不平行；both of whom引导非限定性定从，running应该改为ran做定从谓语。

B.Unlike连接结构不平行； each和independent candidates单复数不一致。

C.Unlike连接结构不平行；an independent candidate和both单复数不一致；which应该改为whom。

D.Unlike连接结构candidates与run不平行

E.Correct

如果选D的话怎么理解？George Wallace in 1968 and John Anderson in 1980是插入语？那么就拿H. Ross Perot's independent run for the presidency in 1992 和the independent candidates作比较了，而原意是拿H. Ross Perot's independent run for the presidency in 1992和the independent candidacies of George Wallace in 1968 and John Anderson in 1980作比较

而且作为插入语读起来也很难受啊，插入了一个看上去无关的内容

今天也在看这道题，叫的prep08版少解释了省略；还原句子看好了，如果选D，还原进原句，逗号分裂了原句在候选人之间independent run for the presidency的比较；而如果E选项把run for the presidency全部加上，显得句子很啰嗦。

今天刚看了这个题，然后又看了一下其他XDJM对其他unlike平行结构的讨论，我觉着unlike连接的平行结构是两个independent candidacise，ABC就都排除了。D选项里面的George Wallace in 1968 and John Anderson in 1980是插入语？貌似啥也不是啊，就是很奇怪的放在那的，也没有修饰哪个也不是定语，所以不是很对啊~

你在仔细看看E选项是candidacies竞选资格，而D选项是candidates是指人，而原文是要找和run（竞选）平行的词，那肯定就只能选E了。
