标题: 随便说两句leadership方向的选校
随便说两句OB/Leadership方向的申请，欢迎版上各位补充！

我就不多说废话做铺垫了，看了一晚上paper脑子已经架不住了，所以关于那些读博的commitment之类的话就不重复了，版上很多老帖子可以参考，在这儿我就直奔主题了。。。这儿只限于OB里的leadership方向申请，不牵扯其他方向。

确定具体的选校名单前，先要了解leadership的研究到底有哪些方向，这些方向中有哪些话题是近期热门的，这些方向各自都有哪些牛人，这些牛人所在的学校是否有phd项目（个别的还真没有phd项目或者因为经费的问题这两年不招新....）。最好的办法不是去AMJ,AMR,JAP翻文章一个个地找，太费时间而且还不见得你找的就一定正确。我建议的方法是看看Leadership Quarterly的editorial board，看看之前和现在都有哪些人在里面。这里面的人，不一定个个都是leadership方向的权威，但权威基本都在里面，这些名单至少能给你一个大概的牛人分布图。

leadership的方向怎么来划分，学术界也没个定论。bass, latham, graen, pearce先后都曾建议过按people-based和process-based来划分，前者就是transformational/transactional leadership，后者是empowering leadership/ LMX / shared leadership等。pearce2002年的时候在JMP上发过一篇leadership方向划分的文章，他把leadership划分为directive, empowering, transformational, transactional。不管怎么划分，你申请的时候心里有个数就行了，没必要太过于计较这个划分的范围。与其关注这个，不如关注topic的范围，举几个例子来说吧：

transformational方向，除去bernard bass不说，bruce avolio, tim judge, david day等等等等都不错，这个方向人选很多很多，可以说是太多了，毕竟做这个方向的是leadership里的主流。

shared leadership方向，craig pearce算是先驱了，michell doyle, mark smith都是很不错的，还有manz, sims等等，pearce前期做了很多qualitative的东西，正在做multi-level的quant

LMX方向，早期的graen, green等等就不说了，现在还有liden, schriesheim, scandura, uhl-bien, wayne等等，uic和miami系列的算是主流吧，uic系列的liden, wayne, sparrow（wustl）, erdogan (portland state), kraimmer (iowa)，miami系列的schriesheim, scandura，外加unl的uhl-bien和buffalo的dansereau，我觉得是最主要的。

complexity leadership方向，做得人越来越多，我了解有限，我个人觉得只有uhl-bien和marion做得最好，一般的leadership学者思维比较定势，习惯于quantitative的方法来做，但是complexity目前是需要很多qualitative的东西来打基础的，所以JAP上很少见complexity的东西

anyway，只有了解了各个方向现在比较活跃的人，才能帮助你确定怎么去选校。我个人不推荐某一个或者某几个学校，但如果你真的想今后就focus在leadership方向来做，下面这几个或许可以更重点地来考虑考虑：uw, wustl, purdue, illinois-chicago, nebraska-lincoln, miami, florida, asu, iowa, maryland

integrative leadership is not widely considered a primary domain of leadership. the nature of integrative leadership does not fall into either trait or process approach. rather, it somewhat lives on the idea of CAS (complex adaptive systems), which is the core construct of complexity leadership. i know minnesota has a center of integrative leadership. but terms such as integrative leadership, innovative leadership, and agricultural leadership are not quid pro quo domains differentiated with major leadership domains resulting unique patterns of behavioral/attitudinal outcomes.

complexity leadership is one of the most promising fields in leadership research in the next decade. if you are in favor of the core concept of integrative approach, i would suggest you read more about complexity stuff.
