1. only to do sth在句中做结果状语，一般用逗号和句子主干分开。
它表示出乎句子主语意料之外的/不如人意的结果。

2. 该结果状语中还含有一个固定结构：感官动词(find) + 宾语(the train) + 宾语补足语(形容词gone).

3. 再如：
1) Many reporters hurried to the airport, only to be told that the superstar had already left.
很多记者匆忙赶到机场，结果只是被告知说那个超级明星已经离开了。
2）I returned home from work, only to find my house broken into.
我下班后回到家中，结果只是发现我家被人破门而入了。
