标题: 关于省略动词有个疑问想确认下
In its most recent approach, the comet Crommelin passed the Earth at about the same distance and in about the same position, some 25 degrees above the horizon, that Halley’s comet will pass the next time it appears.
(A) that Halley’s comet will pass
(B) that Halley’s comet is to be passing
(C) as Halley’s comet
(D) as will Halley’s comet
(E) as Halley’s comet will do

答案是D
根据白勇书上的解释是比较形式的从句里可以保留助动词,省略动词.那这道题目还原省略就是as Halley’s comet will (pass)
疑问是,题目中的主句谓语是过去式passed,那省略的话可以忽略passed这个过去式 而补上原形的pass?

一直都是以为当主句出现相同形式的动词的时候,从句才可以自动省略相同的动词,比如这题主句谓语动词如果是原形的PASS,那后面明显可以省略will (PASS)

概念不是很清楚,希望路过的同学能指点下,尤其是OG上如果有类似的列子也麻烦告诉一下,多谢多谢~!!!

因为之前我也有注意过这个所谓还原的问题，当前面的动词是一般形式，后面的动词突然出现了完成式的have/had，句子是错的，说是因为have/had后面应该接一个过去式但是前面没有提供，那为什么这个will 明明需要一个一般式，但是前面只提供了一个过去式，却是可以的呢？？？？

You are right, you actually can't. The correct answer is only the best possible answer, but it actually is itself incorrect. A completely correct answer would indeed include the word 'pass'.

Good question. I know how frustrating these issues can be.

比较从句的承前省略并不是一成不变和绝对的，因为要结合句意来看，前面的pass是代表已经发生过的事情，而后面的will pass是将来发生的事情，由于时态改变，而使得后面的部分所需省略的东西与前面的不同了。

例如：The population of China is greater than that of US. 这里省略了is
         The population of China is greater than it was ten years ago.这里的was就需要补出了，这就是时态的影响，而对于实义动词，则只需要补出助动词部分即可。
