97. Delta Products Inc. has recently switched at least partly from older technologies using fossil fuels to
new technologies powered by electricity. The question has been raised whether it can be concluded that
for a given level of output Delta’s operation now causes less fossil fuel to be consumed than it did
formerly. The answer, clearly, is yes, since the amount of fossil fuel used to generate the electricity needed to
power the new technologies is less than the amount needed to power the older technologies, provided level of
output is held constant.

In the argument given, the two boldfaced portions play which of the following roles?

conclusion.

第一句大致意思是：Delta Products Inc. 最近转为新能源经营
第二句大致意思是：因此，有人提出这样的疑问：Delta Products Inc. 这样的转变是否引起新能源的过度消耗
第三句大致意思是：肯定上面的疑问并且完整论述整个 argument
因此答案选B，第一句作为事实与第二句的疑问是正相关关系，因此第一句可作为support。并且第二句是最后一句的conclusion。

楼上的那位同学已经把结构说清楚了；
LZ选了哪个呢？其实这道题出的有点小trick，第二个划线部分不是划的整个疑问部分question(whether...)，而是concluded that的内容:for a given level of output Delta’s operation now causes less fossil fuel to be consumed than it did
formerly. 因此在判断第二个划线的时候就不能作为一个疑问句，疑问来处理；而是作为肯定的来读就知道它是一个陈述结论型的句子；它只能是结论的内容；判断它是结论后，第一个划线和它的关系就容易理解了不知有没有说清楚，希望有所帮助哈

今天终于明白这题的第一个黑体部分的作用：述说一个事实: 用新技术部分地替代旧技术这在一定程度上能够说明新技术优于旧技术,否则就没有替代的必要,因此它是用来支撑结论的,而不是阐述结论的。

不过第二个黑体不是起支持作用是为什么？还是有点糊涂

第二部分是个陈述句它是这个argument的conclusion。并不是起支持作用的。
我也不是很明白第一句为什么是起的支持作用可能是因为公司转换能源结构就是因为结论是它省能源所以是支持吧。。

BD1 阐述的是事实，事实支持结论 BD2

你简单的想
会有最后的结论是因为做了BD1 所以有BD2的结果
thus BD1 support the final conclusion BD2
再去叙述的确cause less fossil fuel comsumption
