标题: than he 还是than him?
777.The man was always aware, sometimes proudly and sometimes resentfully, that he was a small-town Midwesterner who was thrust into a world that was dominated by wealthier, better-educated, and more polished people than him.
(A) who was thrust into a world that was dominated by wealthier, better-educated, and more polished people than him
(B) who had been thrust into a world that was dominated by more wealthy, educated, and polished people than him
(C) who had been thrust into a world dominated by wealthier, better-educated, and people more polished than he was
(D) thrust into a world dominated by more wealthy, educated, and polished people than him
(E) thrust into a world dominated by wealthier, better-educated, and more polished people than he
the key:E

牛津字典上解释:than 是介词
例句:I'm older than her.

所以,此答案中than he应该是不对的吧。

这边he后面省略了be。不是一个单独的名词

he在此不是主语,而是一个介词的宾语,后面不应有省略的be动词呀。

求大牛来解答
我又在外国论坛也看到讨论这个问题的了。

外国人写的原文是

In case of comparison, we should bear in mind that two nouns or clauses are compared. If two clauses are compared, every clause must have subject and verb.
Example:

He is longer than Rana (is).
=> He is longer than is Rana.

但这里是He is longer than "is Rana"还是than Rana is

和另一个版本

You can write many comparisons either way - as nouns or as clauses.

Nouns:
She is taller than her sister.
SHE <is taller than> HER SISTER

Clauses:
She is taller than her sister is.
(though the above usage is a bit awkward - because you can just compare nouns, you might as well - it's cleaner)

但是这另一个版本中是应该是She is taller than" is her sister"?还是taller than her sister is?

这里的than是连词,后面是主格和宾格不由than决定,比如
I love football than her  我爱足球胜过爱她
I love football than she  我比她更爱足球

本题中,比较的是people和he,
但是在复杂句中,句子变复杂了,就难以判断了,我试着把by后面的内容单独拿出来
wealthier, better-educated, and more polished people than he
这里有个陷阱,如果改写成
people who were wealthier, better-educated, and more polished than he was
就不大会弄错了
这里的比较,本身是主格之间的比较
复杂句为了简单,把定语从句改成定语,当我们分辨不清的时候,尝试着将定语改回为定语从句,也许就容易了

同意!!!
不過我有點不明白,如果是people who were wealthier, better-educated, and more polished than he,去掉was,是不是也對?

wealthier, better-educated, and more polished people 和 HE 比较
was dominated by him 是错的

为什么不是dominated by him 与 dominated by people who......比较?

With "than" or "as"

Another common pronoun mistake happens in sentences where you use "than" or "as" to compare people or things:

Peggy is smaller than I.
The dog down the street is meaner than she.
Dogs are as smart as they.
You want to use "me," "her," and "them," don't you? You could, but that wouldn't be right. The subject form of the pronoun always comes after "than" or "as." Why? There's an understood verb in the construction.

Peggy is smaller than I (am).
The dog down the street is meaner than she (is).
Dogs are as smart as they (are).
You can see why the object form won't work: "me am," "her is," and "them are" are just plain wrong! Even though you probably hear these kinds of sentences used incorrectly, when you're writing you can get them right if you remember that understood verb.

这里比较的是people和he,people are more... than he is
而不是the world is dominated by people than him,这样没有可比较的东西,than用的不对,至少应该用rather than或者是instead of
