Over the last century, paleontologists have used small differences between fossil specimens to classify triceratops into sixteen species. This classification is unjustified, however, since the specimens used to distinguish eleven of the species come from animals that lived in the same area at the same time.
Which of the following, if true, would enable the conclusion of the argument to be properly drawn?
(A) Not every species that lived in a given area is preserved as a fossil.
(B) At least one individual of every true species of triceratops has been discovered as a fossil specimen.
(C) No geographical area ever supports more than three similar species at the same time.
(D) In many species, individuals display quite marked variation.(C)
(E) Differences between fossil specimens of triceratops that came from the same area are no less distinctive than differences between specimens that came from different areas
I think C is not correct because there is no evidence that the 11 species are similar. D is correct because it provides an explanation why the 11 specimens could represent fewer than 11 species - because individual of the same species can show variance.
Just want to make sure that you see the point here.
题目中结论是 the specimens used to distinguish eleven of the species come from animals that lived in the same area at the same time can't classify 16 different species只要选项能够支持为什么一个AREA 不能支持 classification for 16 different species 就可以了, C最清楚的表明了这一点一个AREA连3个都不能支持.
small differences between fossil specimens 暗合similar吧。
Which of the following, if true, would enable the conclusion of the argument to be properly drawn?
The conclusion above is not properly drawn unless which of the following is true?
这题应该是"Justify the conclusion"题, 是充分类assumption(不是通常意思上的必要类assumption).
But similar is a new word!
As MINDFREE said, there is no information that indicates eleven of the species coming from the same area that are similar!
How to comfirm c?
d CAN reflect the "small difference between fossil"
