此处为什么过去完成时是正确的呢~~想不通呀想不通

by 1997 说明是在动作（grow)发生在过去某一个时间（1997）之前，即“过去的过去”

再就是原句是用的过去完成时，除非有明显的时间提示，不然篡改时态会导致句子愿意改变。

完全同意楼上的意见，时态不能轻易改变。另外有一个小技巧：两个分号，三个逗号。正确选项一定在两个分号的选项中，三个逗号不用看了。反之，三个分号，两个逗号则不一定。

这道题中，分号表示前后并列关系，而其余三个选项要么状从，要么定从，表示前后有主次之分，改变了句子重心。

为什么非要用时态的区别来做呢，楼主把5个选项带进去都翻译一下就会更容易判断了
