给出的答案是b，搜索到了讨论帖，但是年代久远不能回复。讨论是在a，b之间纠结。
这里想说的是，如果选b，后面半句as competing companies one day may be partners the next，这根本说不通！one day 干什么用啊？因此我认为选a。请各位指正，谢谢

目前看来a的问题在于because,c的问题在于可疑的with sth's being done结构

感觉第一题,b稍微好点的吧,
competing companies one day 刚好和后面的partners the next 一致，
而且主从句也是一致的，in the internet industry放后面了

第二题 with one's being 结构不对的吧，而且这里coal是无生命的，用 's不合理的吧

第二题中的真实主语是 the output, 而与with的逻辑主语肯定是不一致的，
虽然我不知道with的逻辑主语是啥，或许是这个行业的什么的

"Whereas" and "although" are both correct. We can't choose between A and B on the basis of these words.

The reference of the pronoun "they" is unambiguous in both A and B. It refers both logically and grammatically to the subject of the preceding clause "lines." We can't choose between A and B on the basis of this word either.

What makes B wrong is the phrase: "as competing companies one day may be partners the next." The separation of "competing" from "one day" confuses the intended meaning. In A, "companies that compete one day may be partners the next" is clear and logical.

Now back to my cave...

后面半句的意思大概是：今天是竞争对手，明天就可能成为搭档。这样说来A确实有点意思。而B的competing companies one day体现不出来今天是竞争对手这个意思。

回到题目上来，
CDE都很容易排除，
AB的they指代都多多少少有问题，所以只能靠as...来排除。
A中的 as companies that compete one day may be partners the next 有问题，如下：
如果考虑成as + n.就不符合逻辑，所以要考虑成as + 句子。
那么companies that compete one day may be partners the next 就是一个句子，而这里的that compete one day就是修饰 companies 的定义从句，句子简化成 companies that... may be partners.
比较B答案中的简化形式： competing companies may be partners. (在这里，我去掉了one day 和 next day 因为他们形式功能完全对称)。
如果根据定语从句要尽可能的简化的原则，B也更简化而又不产生歧义。
我个人认为B更好

但是这里简化后修饰one day修饰的对象改变了吧，也就是说改变了原句的逻辑意思的吧，所以这种情况下不能简化的，个人观点，我绝对不会选B

我觉得a是对的
就用as来判断
A中， as companies( that compete one day )may be partners (the next).
简化后,即：as companies may be partners.
B中，as( competing )companies( one day) may be parterners (the next).
同A简化以后，
所以简化了后看句子结构，根本就不能判断什么

应该从逻辑含义来判断：某天成为对手的公司，也许另一天就成为了伙伴
未来某天对应未来某天的下一天，A合理。因为one day表示未来的某未知时间点
而如果用B，competing companies，表示在one day的时候，公司已形成了competing的关系，这样逻辑含义就不平行了。个人认为选择A
