(C) protecting

(D) as a protection of

(E) to protect

答案自然是C，但是OG的官方解释是说：现在分词开头的状语从句修饰主句的Items，
为什么修饰的不是主语shields而是items？
那岂不是说状语从句的逻辑主语可以不？、与主句一致么？？

不明白，请NN们解释一下

protecting warriors against enemy arrows and spears应该指animal-hide shields 啊
不是所有essential items of military equipment都是protecting warriors against enemy arrows and spears
比如弓箭长矛神马的？……

逻辑主语是动作的发出者。
animal-hide shield是一个物体，自身不能发出动作。所以不能作为protecting的逻辑主语。
