标题: 由OG-92想到替代的问题

92. Never before had taxpayers confronted so manyfficeffice" />

changes at once as they had in the Tax Reform Act of 1986.

(A)     so many changes at once as they had in

(B)     at once as many changes as

(C)     at once as many changes that there were with

(D)     as many changes at once as they confronted in

(E)         so many changes at once that confronted them in

428.Inflation has made many Americans reevaluate their assumptions about the future; they still expect to live better than their parents have, but not so well as they once thought they could.

(A) they still expect to live better than their parents have

(B) they still expect to live better than their parents did   (did 代主动词原形expect)

(C) they still expect to live better than their parents had

(D) still expecting to live better than their parents had

(E) still expecting to live better than did their parents

the key:B

come on, 还是不确定,来人看看吧。

作者: jnlvo    时间: 2004-4-4 22:15

我觉得did代lived,而且could后省略的可能也是live。

作者: snow_mountain    时间: 2004-4-4 23:31
前面是to live 呀?更不明白了。
作者: tianwan    时间: 2004-4-4 23:49

语法书上写:He bought a bigger book than I bought./He bought a bigger book than I did.都可以,后者更好。

没有找到时态不同和as...as的这种对应的例子。但从这个例子中可以看到,都可以,使用助动词更好。

请指正。

可能这么理解,did代did (to) live,could (to) live。参见og129.

附上OG-129

129. In an effort to reduce their inventories, Italian vintners have cut prices; their wines have been priced to sell, and they are.

(A) have been priced to sell, and they are

(B) are priced to sell, and they have

(C) are priced to sell, and they do

(D) are being priced to sell, and haveC

(E) had been priced to sell, and they have 答案C。

In choice C, the best answer, do is correctly used in place of the full verb do sell; in this verb, do is a conjugated form and sell is in the infinitive form, corresponding to its previous use in the sentence (in the phrase priced to sell). In choice A, the omitted word is selling; in B, D, and E, it is sold. Neither of these forms corresponds properly to to sell earlier in the sentence. Also, in E, the past perfect had been priced signifies that the wines had been priced to sell before the prices were cut.

428.Inflation has made many Americans reevaluate their assumptions about the future; they still expect to live better than their parents have, but not so well as they once thought they could.

(B) they still expect to live better than their parents did

从意思上来看,did 好像的确是提到live 的哦。

回到最初的confronted 能否用did 替代的问题上面,可否这样理解,do, did 的替代比较自由,可以提到主动词的多种时态的形式。 其他如are, have, had 等形式一定要求前后对应?

还请各位指正。

我想可能是这样的。

补全,好像是

In an effort to reduce their inventories, Italian vintners have cut prices; their wines are priced to sell, and they do(to sell)

(E) still expecting to live better than did their parents

marie MM: 那么为什么这里答案B可以用did代前面的live而不用lived呢?

谢谢指点。

It seems that a straight forward substitution (simple present -> simple past) is encouraged... another example:

OG 168B: Today, because of improvements in agricultural technology, the same amount of acreage produces twice as many apples as it did in 1910.

when it involves more complicated tenses, be very careful (meaning clear & concise ) in 92D and OG 187A:

In one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, fought at Sharpsburg, Maryland, on September 17, 1862, four times as many Americans were killed as would later be killed on the beaches of Normandy during D-Day.

fyi: there is a thread discussing the same issue: OG-92只有五天了,请NN们帮个忙.

多多讨论...
