1.                             In 1933 the rubber, clothing, and shipbuilding industries put into effect a six-hour workday, believing it a seeming permanent accommodation rather than a temporary expedient for what many observers thought was an economy made overproductive by advances in technology.

(D) not as a temporary expedient but as a seemingly permanent accommodation to what many observers thought was

She has an adopted child who (she says) was an orphan../ I've got a proposition that( I'm sure) will interest you.

I've climbed mountains by routes (the guide said) were impossible.

not as a temporary expedient but as a seemingly permanent accommodation to what many observers thought wasD

to what后面的成分怎么解释,如果是插入语那么to what(many observers thought) was an economy是什么呀?

to what(many observers thought)was  an economy怎么解释??

什么是what was an economy呢?

什么是what was an economy呢?

In 1933 the rubber, clothing, and shipbuilding industries put into effect a six-hour workday,  not as a temporary expedient but as a seemingly permanent accommodation to what many observers thought was
an economy made overproductive by advances in technology.

其实就是ACCOMMODATION TO AN ECONOMY

accommodation to后面的成份应该怎么理解;还有what (many observers thought) was an economy made overproductive...

accommodation to what many observers thought was an economy中,真正的插入部分是what many observers thought was ,不能单单只说many observers thought ,为了强调就是observers 认为的那种economy,什么样的economy呢,后面-ed做定语的made overproductive by advances in technology给出了解释。

I've climbed mountains by routes (the guide said) were impossible.

I've climbed mountains by routes  that (the guide said插入语) were impossible.

In 1933 the rubber, clothing, and shipbuilding industries put into effect a six-hour workday,  not as a temporary expedient but as a seemingly permanent accommodation to what many observers thought was an economy made over-productive by advances in technology.

白勇说 what many observers thought was这个部分是个同位语结果,一语中的。
In 1933 the rubber, clothing, and shipbuilding industries put into effect a six-hour workday,  not as a temporary expedient but as a seemingly permanent accommodation to sth {that( many observers thought) was an economy made over-productive by advances in technology}.
