They feel that making products that wear out fairly quickly wastes both natural and human resources. What they fail to see, however, is that such manufacturing practices keep costsdown for the consumer and stimulate demand”
Which doyou find more compelling: the complaint about products that do not last or theresponse to it? Explain your position using relevant reasons and/or examplesfrom your own experience, observations, or reading.
________________________________________________________________________________________ Many peopleargue that the products that are manufactured are not durable, and thereforethey feel this kind of business model is waste both natural and human resources. On the other hand, this business practices keep costs down for consumer andstimulate demand. In this discussion, I will present my argument that favoringthe former statement and refuting the latter statement.
Firstly, making profit is the first mission in business world. What the entrepreneur doesis to boost company’s profit by meet consumer demand. If the consumer demandfor the low cost product, so the production should focus on lower the costs.
Secondly, consumershould share the responsibility of wastage that business produce. Nowadays consumptionpatent is different from decade ago. Unlike last generation which is emphasison product durability, the new generations consumers pursuit new products, newinnovation. Take hand phone as example, in my father generation, he only willchange his hand phone when his current hand phone is spoil. In contrast, in mygeneration, we as teenager, changes hand phone frequency is per quarter year.If you keep your hand phone more than 2 years, you are considered as outdated. The wastage is because consumer disposes the products even it is function well.Furthermore, because of this new consumption trend, business has no choice butto focus on launching new products as soon as it can rather than focus on improveproducts’ durability.
Lastly, withAdam Smith invisible hand theory can conclude that the resources allocated bymarket demand. There will be far less wastage if consumer put emphasis inproduct durability rather than chasing new innovation since business have to satisfyconsumer demand in order to survive.
