答案是E, 因为 (attempt 的用法只有E正确) OG 还解释说:


    ......the phrase "the chemical irritant" is also the most concise and precise conclusion for the sentence    ------ 怎么成了conclusion?
because it clerly refers to the "dioxin" mentioned earlier. ------     如果'化学刺激物" refers to the "dioxin" , 逻辑上象是dioxin induces the production of enzymes that are the organism's attempt to render itself.


好奇怪的用法 哪位牛人请解释一下 ......

这题其实可以这么看：AB实在是太难看了，什么organism's trying，awkward到了极点，ets是绝对不允许这种形式存在的，


而CD已经有了attempt后面又跟了try，是没有必要的意思重复，这么一来也就只剩E了。意思是dioxin会促使产生一种酶，而这种酶的产生正是因为器官想要将dioxin新陈代谢掉，或使之变得无害。英语中可以用代词指代前面出现过的名词，但是也可以把前面的名词换个说法表达出来，而后者常常是代词容易出现指代不清的状况时采取的一种方法

趁周末将本题整理了一下, 经确认, 现总结如下, 以便新人查考:


这里的render …… 看似与metabolize平行, 似乎可以拆分成: dioxin induces the production of enzymes that are the organism's attempt to render itself, 实则在语法和逻辑上都不通.


这里的关键是:     or render harmless 是一个插入成分, 它的前后都有 “,” 是插入语的标志, 而不是与metabolize平行的谓语.


render + adj. 用法类似MAKE : to cause to be or become 例如: enough rainfall... to render irrigation unnecessary;     rendered him helpless 等等.


起进一步说明和解释metabolize的作用, 类似用法如: acrophobia, or fear of great heights


    


organism ===> attempt ===> metabolize ===     the chemical irritant (eg. Dioxin)


                     <================== induce ==================


这里的Dioxin 是机体新陈代谢对象chemical irritant (名词,化学刺激物)的一种.
