这一题OG对C的解释包括了划线部分最后一个词them的指代不明，也即说明了语法上/语感上them不能直接指代for million people，而是指代了a population of only four million people。而总所周知对于，it和they这种具象性指代都是指代entire noun (phrase)的，所以it在本帖所讨论题中应该是完全指代了little of polar ice，而不仅仅是Polar ice.

对C：
1.or else显得后面的情况跟前面情况的发生概率相等，所以后面的情况要用虚拟语气引导（引用斑斑）
2.依然悬而未决，暂认为不可省略。

我不是NN，但是我觉得如果是选C的话那么BE动词去了哪里呢？省略了？但是前面是复数后面是单数你不能省略吧！！！所以我觉得C不对了。不过我刚开始看这个were it to do so不知道是什么东西来的。

我倒是犹豫了一下选了C…… 觉得B里面were it to do so里面的it指代有问题…… 不过除去it的问题，表达倒是没有什么问题的，因为were it to do so说明的是Antarctica receives more solar radiation than does any other place on Earth而不是little of the polar ice melts during the summer
